Homerton Early Years Centre – Weekly Bulletin

Wednesday 18th October 2023

Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents and Carers

Cake sale today

A big thank you to you all for baking and buying cakes today – and for joining in with all things pink and red! So far we have raised over £235 for the ‘Breast Cancer Now’ charity. Thank you to everyone who helped organise this event especially Tracey, Kate and Debs and Bob.

Thank you also for your help in getting children settled into Homerton this half of term.  As you probably know next week is half term.  If your child is booked into Holiday club it runs Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm. Please come to the main entrance by the office to drop off and pick up. Thank you to Mel, Bridget, and all the staff who are helping to run the club this half term.

On Monday 30th October the Centre is closed for a staff training day. The Centre re-opens as normal on Tuesday 31st October.

We have a few exciting events in the week we return which are a mini fireworks display, just for the children, during their session on 1st November.  This gives us a chance to talk about firework safety for ourselves and our pets before children see fireworks in the following days.

I am attaching our Homerton Curriculum Goals.  We use these alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum as Homerton’s educational programme. The goals focus on fun educational activities and events in each curriculum area for both The Nest and the Nursery and have a number of steps of progress for each depending on the age and stage of the child’s development.

Medical Update/Covid:

Unfortunately Covid cases do seem to be on the rise again so please keep your children off if they are unwell as we want to limit the spread of any illnesses.

Some of the Learning this week

Please see the selection of photos below for just a few of the activities that have taken place in classes this week.

We have been celebrating all things Autumn themed, by carving out pumpkins in class and reading the story Pumpkin Soup with the children.  It is great that the pumpkins featured in the photos were grown on our own allotment. Some of our children have also been visiting the allotment this week.

Children have also been enjoying extending their physical skills both here at Homerton and next door in the park – we seem to have some very able climbers this year and couple of future firefighters.

Children have also been using our dabber pens to make pictures and enjoying stories together.

Dates for your diary:

Half Term holiday – Monday 23rd -27th October.
