Homerton Weekly Bulletin – Thursday 6th January 2022

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR FAMILIES

Dear Parents and Carers,

Wishing you all a very happy 2022 and thank you again for all our amazing cards and gifts, which we have enjoyed over the Christmas period.

Our language focus for this half term is Chinese.  A big thank you to Liz and Dong for putting together the attached information.  Chinese/Lunar New Year will be celebrated on 1st February – it is the year of the tiger.

Our training day this week was on Makaton, a simplified and relatively easy sign language which was developed by speech therapists. It helps develop children’s non-verbal and verbal communication, as adults both say, and sign, words at the same time. We are having fun singing familiar songs with the children alongside the sign….so maybe your children will be able to teach you as well.

21st January is our final inset day of the year and is on food hygiene.

After half term we are hoping to put on training courses for parents on the theme of ‘Challenging Behaviour in young children and how to deal with it’.  The courses will be delivered by Fran Crouch, assisted by Suzy Hughes, both of whom previously worked in our Children’s Centre Family work team. The plan is to run 3 sessions for a group of 8 parents on a Tuesday morning from 9.15-11.00am, here in the Centre. If you would like to attend this course please email the office.  If we have a lot of interest then we will hope to run the sessions again a number of times over the rest of the year.

As you will be well aware Covid 19 is still very much with us, so we really appreciate all your support in keeping the whole community safe by wearing masks and dropping children at the doors of classrooms.  We are having to keep  windows and doors open for large parts of the day so please remember to dress your children in warm clothes. I am attaching a letter and flow chart from the Local Authority explaining the measures being taken across schools.

Finally I am attaching this month’s What’s On for families.

As always please just speak to class staff, myself or the office if you have any questions or queries.

Best wishes

Alex and all the Homerton team
