Homerton Early Years Centre – Weekly Bulletin

6th December 2023

Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents

I would like to start by saying a big thank you to Bob and Melody for making the Centre look so beautiful and festive.

We have had some exciting events this week for the children as they enjoy the lead up to Christmas. Father Christmas visited on Tuesday, and has said he is hoping to drop in again, when he is passing with his reindeer, later in the week. Thanks to Roy Stamp our retired caretaker, for being Santa. We hope your children liked their gifts, which were bought with your generous donations made to the school fund.

I know the Christmas Story trail was also a very special event and I hope you all enjoyed it.  Thank you to all the adults who came to volunteer as Shepherds, Kings, the Holy Family, music makers etc. It really is a magical event bringing the story of Christmas to life for children. It also crosses so many curriculum subject areas from storytelling, to imaginative and creative play, music, singing and dancing.  It is a very special community event for us bringing together all the families from across Homerton to share in something special.

Looking ahead to next week, please can you remember to bring some money with you on Wednesday 13th as we have our Christmas Raffle with so many fantastic prizes to be won! The money raised from the raffle will go towards us buying ‘Small World’ play resources for the garden. Tracey has been busy wrapping all the presents so here is a taster of what you could win!

Here is just a small selection of the many prizes that you can win next week.

Staffing News

Debra Bennett, who works in our evening Owlets club as a Playworker is sadly retiring at the end of this term after 18 years here.  I am sure you will join me in wishing her a very happy retirement and thanking her for all she has done for Homerton children over the years.

Covid/Medical Update: Covid is still in the Community but luckily I don’t currently know of any cases here. We seem to have a few cases of Impetigo in The Nest.  Antibiotic cream is used to treat this skin infection. If your child has spots then please can you check with the pharmacy if it is impetigo and if they need to have it treated – it is very infectious and can spread easily between children and adults.
