Welcome back to Homerton for the second half of term. I hope you all had a good half term break.
DIWALI FESTIVAL
Happy Diwali to all our families who are celebrating this festival today. Diwali is the Hindu festival of light which takes place every year as winter approaches and the evenings get darker. The photo above is from our display board at the front of Homerton, which you may like to look at as it gives a fuller explanation of the story of Rama being welcomed back to the city as people hold lights.
Many of the children have been learning about this festival and some have been making clay Diwali candle holders to bring home. We also celebrated with fireworks yesterday with a very
exciting display in the garden!
WARM AND WATERPROOF CLOTHES
As it has suddenly got much colder please could you ensure your children have lots of labelled warm and waterproof clothes at Homerton to keep them both warm and dry through the day.
CAULIFLOWER CARDS FOR CHRISTMAS
Tracey has asked me to remind you to bring back your child’s artwork for Cauliflower cards by Monday 8th November – this can be given directly to the office or to class staff.
LIBRARY BOOK LENDING
In the next couple of weeks all NURSERY classes will start to lend out our Homerton Library books. Boxes of books will be placed outside East, South and West Room classrooms with a signing sheet, so your child can borrow a book on a weekly basis from us. Please remember to return the current book before borrowing the next one.
PLANNING IN THE MOMENT LEARNING JOURNEYS
Now that all the children are settled in to Homerton, staff are just starting to focus on recording children’s individual learning through a system known as ‘Planning in the Moment’ learning Journeys. Please see attachment for more information on this. We really appreciate parents help and input to this recording system, so please do fill in the sheet for your child when class staff ask you.
UPDATE ON COVID SITUATION
You may well have heard that Cambridgeshire has been named as an Enhanced Response Area due to the high levels of Covid in our surrounding area. This means that the Local Authority is advising us to take extra precautions for the coming weeks which include reminding everyone to wash hands more regularly, wearing masks in communal areas of the school, and having enhanced cleaning. We have also been advised not to hold any face to face parent evenings as we would normally do at this time of year. So instead of parents evening we will be sending out a recording next week on how we play and learn at Homerton and what you can do to help with this. If there is anything you would like to especially discuss with class staff then please do talk to them at drop off and pick up and arrange a time for a longer appointment if needed.
LANGUAGE OF THE HALF TERM – Spanish
Each half term we choose a particular language to focus on and do various activities around this language. Please see attached sheet for some of the activities we will be doing and some ideas of things you can also do at home.
WHAT’S ON PROGRAMME
Please see attached the latest What’s On for children and families in Cambridgeshire.
Wishing you all a very happy next half of term.
Best wishes
Alex and all at Homerton
