Homerton Early Years Centre – Weekly Bulletin

12th May 2022

Message from the Head Teacher: Our Bear Hunt for parents and children is on Wednesday 18th May at 8.45-9.15. Please share the attached sheet with your children before the event. Your child will need to either come in wellington boots, or change into them here, before starting the storytrail as they will be splashing through water, and squelching through mud! If they come in wellies please remember to bring them a pair of shoes to change into after the trail.

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we have had our school photographer, Helen Alderton, with us.  She is very popular with the children, making them all laugh, as she takes very natural and relaxed individual and class group shots.  She is hoping to get the photos back to us in the next couple of weeks.

If your child is here for lunch next Thursday then our catering company, Dolce, is providing the children with a special Platinum Jubilee picnic which I am sure they will enjoy.

We are also having our own Platinum Jubilee celebration for all the children in our garden on May 25th.

Covid Update: Unfortunately Covid is still with us and we currently have a number of staff and children unwell with it. Please continue to support us in trying to limit the spread.

Chicken Pox: Chicken pox is also going around the children in the Centre currently both in the Nest and Nursery

Topic: Please see the photos below for some of the many activities that have been taking place across the Centre this week.

The PondMany of you will know that I have been cleaning the weed off the top of the pond with some help from Roy.  The water is now much clearer and the children have had a great time spotting 6 newts, a frog, some snails and freshwater shrimps.

South Room have enjoyed improving their counting skills with the ‘Knickerbocker Glory’ ice cream counting game.

West Room had fun making and then eating fruit kebab sticks, whilst also discussing healthy eating habits.

The Nest have been developing their drawing skills, making circles, whilst also singing ‘The Wheels on the Bus’.

They have also been using leaves covered in paint to make prints.

Events and Outings

This terms Core Book is ‘We’re all Going on a Bear Hunt’, by Michael Rosen.  We will be doing our very own Bear Hunt in the garden for parents and children on the morning of the 18th May for 15-20 minutes at drop off so please put the date in your diaries.  For children who usually attend the afternoon session, please do come along in the morning for the event too as it is only running once 8.45-9.15am. Don’t forget their welly boots!

We are thinking ahead and planning outings for the children in the Nursery classes to go to Nightingale park. These trips can only go ahead if we have enough parent volunteers so please put the following dates in your diaries if you are able to help:-

21st June – West room am

22nd June – East Room am and pm

24th June – South Room am

Unfortunately if your child has a sibling who needs to stay with you then you will not be able to volunteer, as we need to stick to strict ratios for outings. Each parent will be allocated either one or two children, from the class, to look after on the outing.

The NEST are planning a trip to the allotment as their outing and more information on this will follow once we have dates and times.

Dates for your diary:

18th May – Bear Hunt in the garden

Nursery trips to Nightingale Park

21st June – West room am

22nd June – East Room am and pm

24th June – South Room am
