11th January 2023
|
Message from the Head Teacher:
Dear Parents
Firstly a very Happy New Year to you all, and a warm welcome to any families who have just started at Homerton.
Can I start by reminding you that the closing date for Primary School admissions is 15th January 2023, so if your child is due to go to school in September 2023, please make sure you have done an online application for a place. The admissions team can be contacted by email:- admissions@cambridgeshire.gov.uk
This term we have started our new Core book with the children which is Goldilocks and the Three Bears – please see the photos at the end of the bulletin, which show a few of the lovely activities the children have been doing already.
We are also preparing for Chinese or Lunar New Year, which falls on 22nd January this year. It is the year of the Rabbit. We are lucky to have both Dong and Hyun-Mi on the staff, to give us some expert knowledge around Chinese New Year, including how to teach children to write both letters and number symbols.
Chinese is also our language of the half term. Please see the attached sheet for some activities you can do at home. A big thank you both to Liz and Corrine, mother of Kim in South Room, for putting together the Chinese information sheets.

Some of the Learning this week
This week classes have been getting to know the story of Goldilocks, enjoying circle times where the story has been introduced with props, including 3 chairs, 3 beds, bowls and spoons all of different sizes. The children have then had fun acting out the story independently.
Jacqui introduces the story of East Room children act out the story Goldilocks at a West room circle time
Children have also been learning how to make porridge and then eating it at snack time, just like Goldilocks!
South Room have been learning how to sew with beads, to develop fine motor skills.
They have also been playing some turn taking games in order to learn the names of the new children who have joined them this term. One favourite has been the Rolling Ball game, where a child rolls the ball cross the circle to another child, whilst also saying their name. They have also been playing a game where they take turns rolling a dice and then building a tower with different coloured bricks.
The Nest have been exploring the latest technology for online shopping. They ordered a robot to deliver some special goodies to celebrate a child’s birthday. The robot was even able to sing Happy Birthday!
