Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents and Carers

Parent Governor WhatsApp groups

Our parent Governor Amani Anderson who has a child in East Room has kindly set up the parent WhatsApp groups for each class.  We are now looking for parent volunteers who would like to be the parent representatives for The Nest and South Room and if possible an additional parent for East Room.  Thank you to Caroline Doyle who has a child in West Room for volunteering to be a parent representative for that class. If anyone is interested in being a parent representative for The Nest, South or East Room then please speak to me on the gate, or message Amani via the What’s app group for your class.

If you would like to join the WhatsApp group for your child’s class please look on the board outside our main entrance to scan the appropriate code.

The purpose of these groups is to make it easier for you to communicate with other parents in your class, for example if you want to arrange any social activities for your children, or yourselves. We also ask Parent Governors to post information about up-coming events or activities on these groups for us eg if we have a raffle or special event for parents.

Homerton Owl

Your child may have talked about being ‘Homerton Owl’ for the day, so I thought you might like to know a little bit more about this important role in our Nursery classes. The child who is the ‘Homerton Owl’ for the day will find a special owl badge to wear in their name pocket in the morning. They then spend the session doing important jobs, for instance taking the lunch register to Angela, our cook, or leading the class down to lunch, or out into the garden etc. Here are some photos of children who were ‘Homerton Owl’ doing some of their special jobs.

Our Homerton Owls change the Stop to Go signs on the Nursery classroom doors and help take the lunch register to Angela our cook

During our morning ‘Circle times’ up until half term, our ‘Homerton owls’ also have the opportunity to tell the class about their ‘All About Me Book’. They show photos of their family, and often tell us about their favourite story, or song, which is then read, or sung, with the whole class. Circle time is a very social time as children enjoy telling each other about the people, and events, that are most important to them. If you have not yet returned your child’s ‘All about Me Book’, please could you do so.

Family photo boards

Please can you send in a photo of your family to go on our class family photo board as a celebration of our Homerton community this year. If you would like to send these to office@homerton.cambs.sch.uk then we can print them out for you.

Messy Play

Our Messy Play sessions are starting again on Friday 10th October so if you know of any families with toddlers who would like to attend please let them know.  The session is run in our Rainbow Room from 9.30am-10.45am and costs £3.00 per family which needs to be in cash.

Clothing Request

Now that Autumn is upon us, the class staff have requested that you please bring in conkers, seeds, or other seasonal objects for the children to enjoy in class. The weather is also starting to change so please can your children have a warm, waterproof, coat and spare clothes to change into as we go out in the garden in all weathers, even when it is raining!

Book Sale

We are currently raising funds to buy an air conditioning unit for our kitchen which has got extremely hot in recent summers. We are starting fundraising for this with a bring and buy book sale on Tuesday 21st October for the week.

Please bring any books you would like to donate to the office.

If you would like to bring or buy some books during the week please do. You can pay with cash or by making a bank transfer. Thank you in advance for all your support with this – I know both Angela and Helen in our kitchen will be very grateful.

Medical Update: We have had a few children getting temperatures and finding that colds and coughs are increasing. Please keep your children at home if they are unwell so that illnesses don’t spread to others, your support with this is much appreciated.
Some of the Learning this week

Music sessions have started this week

We employ a specialist music teacher, Davina Shore, who works with most of the children on a weekly basis.  Her music sessions are really fun and pitched at this age group. This week the children were playing a variety of different musical instruments whilst singing familiar nursery rhymes.

Celebrating Autumn

We have been collecting our pumpkins off the Homerton Allotment and enjoying doing lots of Autumnal activities with conkers and different coloured leaves.  Mel has also done a beautiful autumn display in our main entrance

Celebrating birthdays

Some classes have also had birthdays to celebrate at circle time. The child whose birthday it is has a special pretend birthday cake or hat with the appropriate number of candles on it.  This is a great opportunity for children to do some group counting and particularly learning about the numbers 2, 3 and 4!

Dates for your diary:

Half Term holiday – Monday 27th October- Friday 31st October.

Holiday club will be running during half term week please book by Friday 10th October if you would like your child to attend.
