Message from the Head Teacher: About Suncream and Sunhats

In this lovely weather we are spending more time outside so please can you ensure your child has had sunscreen put on at home before coming to Homerton,  can you also send them in with a named sunhat – Many thanks

Dear Parents and Carers,

A big thank you to the parents who came in to talk to South Room this week about Eid.  The children in South, and some of the other classes, have watched and taken part in celebrations, including dancing and giving of gifts. One of our lunch staff, Nasima, also showed the children her beautiful henna hand patterns.

South Room children and parents learn a traditional dance to celebrate Eid and share treats with friends at the end of the session.

Covid Update: We are now moving into treating Covid in a similar way to other illnesses. The advice is if you think your child has Covid symptoms, to keep them at home for at least 3 days, and only return to school once they are feeling better with no temperature. Thank you for your support with this. We currently have two members of staff off with Covid.
Topic: Lifecycles and Living Eggs project

This week all the classes have had a visit from the chicks and been able to observe them very closely.  Children have held the chicks and drawn pictures of them.

West Room children enjoy observing the chicks and doing a drawing of them – they have visited all the classes throughout the week.

The final picture is of a bike helmet in the Nest garden which was used by a bird to make a nest – perhaps you could ask your children to count the eggs and then guess which species of bird has laid them?

Events and Outings

This terms Core Book is ‘We’re all Going on a Bear Hunt’, by Michael Rosen.  We will be doing our very own Bear Hunt in the garden for parents and children on the morning of the 18th May for 15-20 minutes at drop off so please put the date in your diaries.  For children who usually attend the afternoon session, please do come along in the morning for the event too as it is only running once 8.45-9.15am.

We are thinking ahead and planning outings for the children in the Nursery classes to go to Nightingale park. These trips can only go ahead if we have enough parent volunteers so please put the following dates in your diaries if you are able to help:-

21st June – West room am

22nd June – East Room am and pm

24th June – South Room am

Unfortunately if your child has a sibling who needs to stay with you then you will not be able to volunteer, as we need to stick to strict ratios for outings. Each parent will be allocated either one or two children, from the class, to look after on the outing.

The NEST are planning a trip to the allotment as their outing and more information on this will follow once we have dates and times.

Dates for your diary:

18th May – Bear Hunt in the garden

Nursery trips to Nightingale Park

21st June – West room am

22nd June – East Room am and pm

24th June – South Room am

Reminders/Requests:

PARKING

Just a reminder that parking across our neighbours drives, when dropping off/picking up children, is not acceptable and causes a lot of upset. There is a lovely walk/scoot or bike ride, through the allotments from Glebe Road, where there is far more parking available.  This option also provides a valuable chance for a chat with your child/children, whilst going through this beautiful green space. Please allow that little extra time to enjoy this experience together and help us keep everyone happy.

HELP WITH OPEN MORNING PROMOTION FOR PROSPECTIVE NEW PARENTS ON 14TH MAY 9.30-11.00

We still have some spaces in our Nursery for September 2022 – so please can we ask you to tell any friends who may be looking for a Nursery place in September about us.

We are holding an open morning for prospective families on Saturday 14th May from 9.30-11.00 so please help us promote this if you are able to. If anyone feels able to put up a poster, in their local area, then please let Alex or the office know.

Suncream and Sunhats

In this lovely weather we are spending more time outside so please can you ensure your child has had sunscreen, put on at home, before coming to Homerton.  Please can you also send them in with a named sunhat.

Medical Information

Chicken Pox

Please be aware that we have recently had a case of chicken pox in the NEST.

Head lice

Please check your child’s hair regularly for signs of headlice and treat them if needed.  This is a very common problem with children this age so regular checking is the best preventative measure we can take.  Thank you.

Lunch Supervisor

We are still looking for a lunch supervisor on a Thursday and Friday

If anyone knows of anyone who might be interested in joining our friendly team please speak to Alex or the Office.

What’s On for May

Please find attached this month’s What’s On which has lots of ideas and activities for children.

Best wishes from us all
