Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents

I wanted to start by reminding you we have a parent information workshop next week on Communication Language and Literacy, so please do come along to that if you are able to book a babysitter as we would love to see you.

Parent Workshop on Communication, Language and Literacy

Come and find out how we support and promote the development of communication, language and literacy in young children and what you can do to help at home.

Venue: Homerton Early Years Centre

Rainbow Room

Date: Thursday 12th February

Time: 7.30pm-8.45pm

Today the staff put on a play version of the story of ‘Goldilocks and Three Bears’ for the children to enjoy. Thank you to all the staff who took part and helped bring this ‘Core Book’ story to life for us. I am sure you will be hearing about it from your children in the coming days.

I have been recently been told about a couple of lovely music resources which you might like to enjoy with your children. The first is a series of books called ‘The Story Orchestra’ which has stories set to the music of a number of composers which can be played by pressing the interactive button on the page. There is one for example of ‘The Planets’, with music by Holst another for ‘The Nutcracker’ with music by Tchaikovsky etc.  We have bought some for the Centre and the children are really enjoying them.

The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra have also teamed up with CBeebies to present stories to orchestral music which our children have been enjoying. Please look at the link below for the story of the Chinese New Year.  There are also a number of other traditional tales in the series.

We have been preparing for Chinese New Year Celebrations here and a big thank you goes to the Nathan’s grandparents and Zach’s Mum, in the Nest for coming in to make dumplings with the Nest children. The Nest children have also been enjoying eating noodles. Our celebrations will continue next week and some of the staff are putting on a Lunar New Year performance for the children on the Thursday before half term and the Wednesday after we return from half term.

Medical Update: We have had a number of children with high temperatures, which have come on suddenly, this week. Your help in keeping children off for a full 24 hours after they have no temperature, is much appreciated.

Children have been hearing the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’. They then enjoyed a follow up maths activity throwing the dice, and putting the correct number of buttons onto his jacket, to match the number of spots on the dice.

The Nest were treated to a cooking demonstration on how to make dumplings which they really enjoyed eating afterwards

The Nest also cooked some noodles and enjoyed using chopsticks to eat them.

Our final pictures today are all from our Goldilocks play.  A big thank you goes to all the staff who put this on for the children to enjoy
