Homerton Early Years Centre – Weekly Bulletin

3rd December 2025

Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents

I would like to start by saying a big thank you to Bob and Melody for making the Centre look so beautiful and festive. Angela and Helen are also making the children a special Christmas lunch in the coming days so thank you to them.

We have had some exciting events this week for the children as they enjoy the lead up to Christmas. Father Christmas will be visiting very soon. Thanks to Roy Stamp our retired caretaker, for being Santa. We hope your children like their gifts, these are bought with your generous donations made to the school fund.

Father Christmas chatting to his reindeer last year before the children arrived to meet him….we are delighted he is coming to visit again this year.

I know the Christmas Story trail was also very special and I hope you all enjoyed it. It really is a magical event bringing the story of Christmas to life for children. It also combines so many curriculum subject areas from storytelling, to imaginative and creative play, music, singing and dancing.  It is a very special community event for us bringing together all the families from across Homerton to share in something special.

Some parents asked us about our very simple visual recipe for our star biscuits so here is a photo of it should you wish to cook some over the Christmas period.

Christmas Raffle

Looking ahead to next week, please can you remember to bring some money with you on Wednesday 10th as we have our Christmas Raffle with so many fantastic prizes waiting to be won! The money raised from the raffle will go towards us paying for some additional equipment for The Nest garden. Tracey has been busy wrapping all the presents so here is a taster of what you could win!

Here is just a small selection of the many prizes that you can win next week.

Tidying up request for help from you at home

Please could you help us by encouraging your children to learn the valuable skill of tidying up toys after they have played with them.  Here we use the following techniques to encourage children to tidy up:-

We have a special music that we put on in class when it is time to tidy up to help them realise what is expected at this time.

We often make it into a bit of fun learning by saying ‘See if you can put 5 pieces of lego into the box?’, followed by lots of praise when they start to help us doing this. Adults also model and encourage saying ‘If you put away this piece then I will put away these pieces’, so it becomes a joint effort.

Your help with this will be much appreciated.

Medical Update: Lots of children seem to be suffering with coughs at the moment, especially in our Nest rooms. Please keep your children at home if they are unwell as we don’t want to spread germs to others…thank you.
Some of the Learning this week

All the photos this week are from today’s Christmas Story trail – so you might like to share them with your children and see what they remember of the event?

A big thank you goes to our team of volunteers who come in to bring the Christmas story to life by being shepherds, kings, Mary and Jesus. Thank you also to our musician playing the keyboards and our dancers and singers around the Christmas tree. We also had a great team making the non-alcoholic punch which was really delicious. The staff also taught the children how to follow a simple recipe and make the shortbread star biscuits so I hope you enjoyed those.
