| Dates for your diary:
Nest trips are taking place on Wednesday 1st and Friday 3rd July Nursery trips to Nightingale park are as follows:- South Room -Tuesday 30th June am West Room – Thursday 2nd July am we are now doing one trip only for all the West children East Room – Wednesday 8th July am
Other dates Wednesday 15th July – Summer Celebration and Goodbye event for parents and children. Parents are welcome to attend at either 11.00am or 2.30pm (depending on when your child attends). We suggest 11.00am for our Nest children as they tend to rest, or have a quieter time, in the afternoons. West Red parents, and South morning parents, will also need to attend in the morning. Friday 17th July – End of Term Monday 20th-Wednesday 22nd July inclusive – Whole Centre is closed Thursday 23rd July – Friday 14th August Summer Holiday club runs. |
| Reminders and Requests:
Please continue to send children in with hats for hot weather and raincoats for showery days.
Nightingale Park Trips Please ensure your children have comfortable shoes for these trip days as there is quite a lot of walking involved. We will provide lots of drinks and a snack for the children.

| Message from Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers
I am sure you are as relieved as us that the hot weather spell has broken. I have to say the children and staff were brilliant at managing this challenge. We did a lot of fun water play, read lots of stories and enjoyed other quieter activities inside to try and help the children regulate their temperatures.
This week we have trips to Nightingale Park for The Nest, South and West Rooms, which I know we are all really looking forward to. Please do let your class staff know if you are free to help on any of these trips.
Friday was our last community Messy Play session and a big thank you goes to Ning and Jen for running this group every Friday for us. It will be starting again in the Autumn Term, so please do let anyone with babies or toddlers know that they can come along on a Friday at 9.30am, pay £3.00 for the session, and enjoy a variety of themed messy activities followed by singing.
I also wanted to thank our allotment team of volunteers. They work really hard in the background making the allotment look beautiful and appealing to children. Currently we have sweetcorn, raspberries and pumpkins growing. Our children have visited the allotment quite a number of times this year and been very involved with watering the plants.
At Homerton we have been growing some beans and measuring them on a regular basis
And we are looking forward to seeing how many potatoes have grown when we empty our pots in the coming weeks
We are also growing some sunflower seeds
On the 15th July we have an end of year singing celebration for children and parents to attend. The event takes place in the main nursery garden at 11.00am and 2.30pm. Please see the dates section for when it is most appropriate for you to attend. Please enter via the park pond gate.
This week we said a fond farewell to Hannah. She kindly gave each class a book ‘The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish’, by Chloe Savage, to have in their book boxes. We all wish her well in her recovery following surgery this weekend. She read the East Room children a story with her usual gusto on her last day – hope you enjoy the pictures of her in action below!

I wanted to let you know that we will also be saying a farewell to four very special members of the team at the end of the term. Suzy and Tracey in the office, and Debbie in East Room- they have all been here for 21 years. A huge thank you goes to them for all their dedication to Homerton – they will be much missed. I am sure you will join me in thanking them all. Nicola who works in breakfast club, at lunch and as a Nest Teaching Assistant, is also leaving us to work on cruise ships on a full- time basis, which sounds very exciting! Thank you Nicola for your hard work for Homerton and getting up so early every day. Our new staff teams for September are Mitali Peckham as Head of Centre, supported by Haidee Clarke, who has been working at Fulbourn Playgroup, as her Deputy. Haidee is also going to be our beginning of the week class teacher in East Room. Dong, who currently works in West Room as a teaching assistant, is taking over the role of Office Manager. Ning, who many of you may know from Messy Play, or lunches, will be our new Finance Manager. I know they are all going to brilliant in their new position. We have been busy training everyone up this term in readiness for their new roles.
The rest of the team is staying as they are next year although some staff are moving rooms, or moving from The Nest to the Nursery. |

| Some of the Learning this week
We have been enjoying watching our caterpillars growing and entering the chrysalis stage. If the weather continues to be warm we may even have some butterflies next week!
The Caterpillars are now all turning in chrysalises ready to become butterflies
Our Nest children have been enjoying cooling off with a lot of fun activities involving the slide and paddling pool
In order to keep children out of the sun we did lots of quiet inside activities – can you spot the numbers and letters written in the shaving foam?

Hannah was presented with a card made by all the children on her last day
And then got the children fully involved in storytelling with her!
We hope she will be able to return to Homerton soon.
