Reminders and Requests:

Sunscreen and Hats

Now that the weather is getting warmer and UV levels are much higher please can we request that all children have sun cream applied first thing in the morning before coming to Homerton, and that they come with a named sunhat to go on their pegs. Could we also request that children have an extra drink at breakfast so they are well hydrated for the day ahead.

Nightingale Park Trips

Please sign up on the sheets outside your classrooms, or speak to class staff, if you are able to help with these trips.

Parking plea

Thank you to everyone who is parking considerately, we have noticed that there are still a number of cars at drop off and pick up across driveways, so PLEASE can you allow extra time so that you have time to park with more consideration for our neighbours, thank you.

Pick up at the end of the session

Please can you pick up your children promptly at the end their session and use the park next door, rather than the Homerton garden, for a play at the end of the day. Our insurance doesn’t cover us to have children on site playing unless they are being looked after by our staff in Owlets. Your help with this is much appreciated.

Nest Gates

Please can you help us to keep all the children safe here at Homerton by making sure you close and bolt the Nest gates after picking up your child.  Thank you

Message from Headteacher

Dear Parents

The hot weather, though lovely, can present quite a challenge for young children. We are trying our best to ensure everyone stays well hydrated through the day.  We have also been using the garden sprinkler hose to cool children off, as well as getting the paddling pool out at times.

Two very exciting events took place at Homerton last week based on Lifecycles. The butterfly eggs all turned into caterpillars and two of our tadpoles in West room turned into frogs. The children have been fascinated by watching both of these events taking place.  Bob has kindly taken the tadpoles and frogs to live in his wildlife garden pond, so hopefully they will be very happy in their new home.

This week sees the start of our trips to Nightingale Park.  South Room will be going on Wednesday morning – thank you to all the parents who have offered to help on this trip. We will be providing the children with drinks and biscuits for the trip, but please bring whatever you need for yourself in terms of water and snacks if you are helping.

One of our parents has been taking part in a research project with The Faculty of Education and said it was a lot of fun, so if anyone else is interested in doing the same I am copying the link below

We have a case of chicken pox reported in the Nest.

Some of our Learning this week

The children have been learning how to colour mix with different powder paints and finding out what happens when red and blue, or blue and yellow are mixed together.

Harvey’s Mum brought in baby Louis and talked to the children about life with a baby and his learning and development

South Room had fun following a recipe to make bread rolls which looked and smelt delicious

Rolling the dough before putting it in the oven to cook

Can you spot the tiny frog in this picture?

The children in Nest green enjoyed learning some songs in French with Adele – thank you to her

Our Nest children also visited the Nursery garden as part of our transition work to help them settle in for September

The children have also been enjoying making campfires

Our scientists of the future have also been experimenting with moving water from one place to another using jugs and guttering at different heights and angles

Best wishes from all of us all at Homerton
