Homerton Early Years Centre – Bulletin

24th February 2022

Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you all had a good half term break despite the wild and windy weather. I know holiday club was a big success and thank you to all the staff who helped to make it such a happy and relaxed week for all the children.

In the photos below you will see the children in East Room have been enjoying some parachute play in the Rainbow Room – we often incorporate familiar songs and rhymes with these sessions. South Room have also been busy making their own perfumes from flowers mixed with water.

Covid Update: I am delighted to say that we appear to have had no Covid 19 cases at all this week.  The advice around isolating is now changing but please continue to keep children off if they are unwell for any reason. I am awaiting further advice from the Local Authority on any measures they would like us to keep in place for the rest of the term.

Topic

Italian is our language of this half term. Please do have a look at the attached sheet which has lots of information and lovely activities. Thank you to Liz and Antonella for putting this together. Today the Nest have been celebrating ‘Carnivale’ and have had a lot of fun making masks, dressing up and dancing to celebrate this Italian festival. I am attaching the template for mask making if you would like to make one at home.

Our Core book for this half of term is ‘When Granny went to Market’.

West room have been looking at our world map to see which countries Granny visited in the book. Next week is also world book day, and week, so please do bring in your child’s favourite named story to share at Circle times. We have a professional storyteller, Marion Leeper, coming to share some of her favourite stories with the Nursery children on Wednesday 2nd March.  The sessions are taking place in The Old Orchard, so please can you dress your children in warm waterproof clothing that day.  I know classes have been giving out the book tokens that can be exchanged for a book in supermarkets and bookshops locally.
