Message from the Head Teacher:
Dear Parents
I am very pleased to be able to tell you that the Nest garden artificial grass project, is now completed. Whilst we would all prefer to maintain natural grass, unfortunately the garden had become so muddy it was impractical given the heavy use. We had a small ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the garden last Friday so here are a few pictures from that event! I am delighted to say the children are really enjoying having the extra space to explore and develop their physical strength and abilities.
This week we have been focusing on ‘Once Upon a Time’ and storytelling. Our core book, as you know, is ‘Goldilocks’. During this half term we also introduce children to many other tales including some real favourites such as ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘The Gingerbread Man’. These stories all provide the opportunity for children to become familiar with the structure of stories having a beginning, middle and end, with a range of characters, both good and bad. These stories also have repetitive language, so children can learn them quickly and start to chant them from memory. The pictures at the start of the Learning this week section are of children enjoying listening to, and then roleplaying, stories themselves.
Next week we are going to be looking forward to Chinese/Lunar New Year and both Davina, our music teacher, and Dong our West Room Teaching Assistant, will be sharing some musical instruments and songs to prepare for the New Year. Dong plays a wooden stringed instrument called a Guquin, so she will be giving us all a small concert on Wednesday, a big thank you to Dong. I also wanted to remind you that parent governor nominations need to be in to our office by 3.45pm tomorrow, if you are interested in helping with this very valuable role please do let the Office or myself know.
Messy Play helpers needed Two of our Governors, Isa and Stefania, do a fantastic job running a ‘Messy Play’ drop in session for families with younger children on a Friday morning from 9.30am-10.45am. They have been doing this for two years now and are hoping to pass the running of the session to some new parents, so if anyone is interested in helping run this group over the Summer Term and next year please do get in touch.
Holiday Club Please can you remember to book your children into Holiday Club if you are going to need this during the half term week.
