We are looking for Lunch Supervisors to work with us from September for two or more days a week. If you, or anyone else you know, might be interested in this role working with our very lovely team then please speak to me, or the office staff. This would be a good opportunity for anyone who is thinking of taking up a career in Early Years Education and Childcare as we support training of staff.

Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents

The children have all so enjoyed The Bear Hunt activities this half term so I thought you might also enjoy recapping the story with them by sharing this visual vocabulary sheet together.

We’re going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen

At the beginning of the story a family set off confidently to hunt for a bear    and on their way they have to push through a field of grass , wade though a river  , squelch through mud , stumble through a forest   and find their way through a snowstorm   before they discover a cave   with a bear    and rush home , not feeling quite so brave.

Thank you for coming on the bear hunt with us last week J

Hong Lele taking a rest after a busy circle time!

I also wanted to tell you a little bit about Hong LeLe, who is a ‘persona doll’, that visits classes on a regular basis to help us deliver various areas of the Curriculum, especially those related to making friends, or feeling safe.

Hong LeLe has an ‘All about me book’ which is shared with the children on his first visit to the children’s classes. He is 4 years old, 100cms tall, has black hair and eyes.  His favourite animal is a panda and his favourite colour is red, like many children his age he has a fascination with dinosaurs, and he loves visiting the train museum. He lives with his Mum, Dad and 2 year old sister, Hong Lili. He speaks both Chinese and English and goes to a Kung Fu class. His favourite time of year is Chinese New Year when he and his family enjoy lots of celebrations.

Hong Lele recently visited West Room, and told the children all about his lost teddy.  The children then came up with lots of helpful suggestions about who he could ask to help him find his teddy and where he might look.

Helen, our school photographer, has let me know that she will have photos ready on her website for you to order after the half term break.

We are all looking forward to the Really Wheelie Trail tomorrow – please remember to label your child’s bike, trike etc if they are bringing one from home for the event. If you are happy to sponsor your child via our school fund then we will be using the money raised to redo the ‘Mud Kitchen’ digging plots and buy the gift of a book for those children who are leaving us at the end of the Summer Term.  Thank you in advance for this.

Medical Update: Nothing in particular to report this week
Some of the Learning this week

The Nest have been collaging bears which are going on their class display about the Bear Hunt.

They have also been sharing their recollections of holidays and telling the staff all about what they can remember of their trips around Cambridge and further afield

Our gardeners have been busy planting sunflower seeds to eventually put in our allotment – they are currently in our Nursery garden in our pop up greenhouse, so children can watch them grow.

West Room have been continuing to visit our allotment plot and challenging their balance by walking the plank! A big thank you to our allotment team volunteers who have been helping get the plot ‘summer ready’.

East Room model makers have been hard at work building with their chosen favourite colour of lego brick.

Children enjoyed Helen’s visit and posed beautifully staying very still for the camera.  Photos will be with you all after half term.

East Room also enjoyed reading the story of ‘Archimedes’ Bath’ they then had the chance to experiment themselves with different animals in the water tray exploring the concepts of water displacement and floating and sinking.

Wishing you all a good half term. Looking forward to seeing you the week beginning 2nd June.
