Message from the Head Teacher:
Dear Parents
A warm welcome back to Homerton and the Summer Term here. I hope you all had a good break over Easter. Thank you to everyone who worked in our holiday club over the Easter holiday – when I had lunch with the children yesterday they were telling me how much fun it had been. The final total for our Easter Raffle was a fantastic £360, thank you all. We are hoping to use this money towards a special event for children at the end of term involving storytelling and clay! This term we are also welcoming a new staff member, Katy Lai, to the Nest. She has had many years of experience teaching young children, most recently working at Sancton Wood. It is also great to have Debbie Stebbings back in East Room again this term. This term our school photographer is coming to take pictures of the children, which you can buy if you would like to – see dates section. We are also holding a parent event based around our core book ‘We’re all going on a Bear Hunt’ on 17th May, so please keep half an hour free on that morning to enjoy this event, in our garden, with your children.
I thought I would finish by sharing with you some funny pictures from our Easter singing in the garden at the end of last term. Your children might enjoy looking at the pictures and telling you some of the songs they were singing at the time.
Our real egg Humpty Dumpty comes to a sticky end!
Staff and children sing the Little Peter Rabbit song together
We also enjoyed singing Chick chick chick chick chicken before trying a hot cross bun. |
Covid/Medical Update: We have had a case of chicken pox in the Centre |
Some of our Learning this week
Our Core book this term is Michael Rosen’s ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ so all the children will be getting to know this story really well. It uses a lot of rhyme and repetitive phrases, which help children develop their understanding of language. It also provides the chance to explore different sounds through music and roleplay as they go through the swishy swashy grass, or the squelchy squerchy mud etc. If you don’t know the story do have a look on-line and you will see various versions of it, including Michael Rosen the author telling it.
Our language of this half term is Greek and next week I shall be sending out a parent information sheet on this with a recipe and language ideas for you to enjoy together.

Best wishes from all of us at Homerton
