Reminders and Requests:
Tuesday 23rd May 7.30-8.45pm – We are holding a Parent workshop on how we teach maths at Homerton. Mitali Peckham, our East Room teacher, will be delivering this workshop, I know it will be a really interesting and informative evening, so please do come along.
Really Wheelie sponsored event on 24th May 9.30-10.30am and 1.30-2.00pm. This is a fun event for children to cycle, trike, scooter, or push a buggy around the garden. If any parents are able to help with this event then please let class staff, or myself, know. The Nest will do a similar event across the week for their children in the Nest garden. We are running this event to raise funds towards buying a defibrillator at the Centre. You may have heard that defibrillators are to be supplied free to all primary and secondary schools across the country, but unfortunately not to Maintained Nursery Schools, such as ours.
Class trips to Nightingale Park during the week beginning 19th June.
Sign-up sheets are up outside the classrooms for parent helpers to volunteer to come on the trips. We are hoping that as we have given lots of notice many of you will be able to come along for this fun educational event. The trips will all take place in the mornings, but we can only go ahead with these trips if we have enough parent and carer support for each morning session (each parent helper will be allocated children to look after, so can we request that you don’t bring younger siblings). Please put the dates below in your diaries and let class staff know if you are able to help.
Monday 19th June am– The Nest Tuesday 20th June am– South Room Wednesday 21st June am– East Room Thursday 22nd June am– West Room Friday 23rd June am– The Nest Thank you

Message from the Head Teacher:
I hope you all really enjoyed The Bear Hunt event in the garden this morning. The classes have been preparing for it by doing physical sessions in the Rainbow Room, based on the book, and making beautiful collaged pictures of the snow, water etc.
East Room going through the snow storm brrrrrr!
The Nest children make a collage for their display on the wall showing the grass, water, mud, forest and snowstorm.
Next week’s event is the Really Wheelie Trail on Wednesday 24th May. This is a fun activity for the children who love being cheered on by their class mates as they complete a few laps of the Nest or Nursery garden with a wheeled vehicle of their choosing. Please bring in a labelled bike, trike, buggy or scooter for your child to use on the day – if you prefer then children can also use the Homerton bikes, trikes and scooters.
Next week is also ‘Walk to School’ week so do take the opportunity to walk or bike to school if you can now that the mornings are so much sunnier and warmer.
If your child is staying at Homerton in September then please can you fill in the ‘Count Me In’ forms that are being sent home and return them to us as soon as you can. This will allow our office team to have everyone on the school system in good time ready for September.
Many thanks as always for all your help and support with our activities.

Covid/Medical Update: No special medical issues to report this week. |
Some of our Learning this week
Colour mixing has been a popular activity in East Room
West Room have had fun making jumping cone shaped hats which flew off the top of empty milk cartons when the air was pushed out of them when the children squeezed them…they were trying to see how high they could get them to go!
West Room authors have also been making their own story books and sharing their stories at circle times
Children from all classes enjoyed South Room’s garden focus last week, which combined both physical development and maths skills, as children threw bean bags into numbered buckets, gaining a number of points for each throw.
This morning’s Bear Hunt event Here are some pictures from our Bear Hunt event in the garden today – thank you all for coming along and making it such a special occasion. Bob even brought along his own bear from his childhood!
