Reminders and Requests:

SENCO Coffee Morning

Bernie is hosting a SEND coffee morning on Wednesday 18th June at 9.30am to focus on transitions for children with any additional needs. Please do attend if you are able to.

Sunscreen and Hats

Now that the weather is getting warmer and UV levels are much higher please can we request that all children have sun cream applied first thing in the morning before coming to Homerton, and that they come with a named sunhat to go on their pegs.

Nightingale Park Trips

Please sign up on the sheets outside your classrooms, or speak to class staff, if you are able to help with these trips.

Parking plea

Our neighbours are feeling annoyed that parents from the Centre are persistently parking across their driveways at drop off and pick up times. We want to maintain good relationships with our neighbours, so please could you help us by not parking across driveways and allowing some extra time to park considerately, and a little further away, if needed – thank you.

Centre closed from 4.00pm

Please be aware that for insurance purposes the Centre closes at 4.00pm daily for most families, the exception being those staying with us to attend Owlets until 5.45pm. So children who have been collected at 3.45pm/4.00 pm are no longer going to be able to return to use the toilet in the Centre if they are playing in the park. Please find alternative solutions if you are staying in the park.

Message from Headteacher

Dear Parents

It was very nice to see so many Nest parents last week at our Nursery new parents evening – thank you all for coming we are really looking forward to your children coming into the Nursery classes in September.  To help with their transition to their new classes we have started having Nest children coming to play in the Nursery garden and in South Room classroom on a Thursday and Friday.

Our SEND Coffee morning is on Wednesday this week and is focusing on transitions so please do come along to this.

HOMERTON EARLY YEARS CENTRE

You are warmly invited to join us for a coffee morning with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo)

Wednesday 18th June 2025

9.30am – 10.30am

Please come and join us for an opportunity to meet other parents and carers and discuss planning and preparation for transition into nursery or school.

We really enjoyed having our work experience students Jessica, Sara and Joy with us last week. They have been helping us with a variety of activities such as reading stories with the children, or doing craft activities.  I am pleased to say they are with us again this week.

Some of our art activities recently have centred around our core book which is ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Please see below the pictorial version of the story which you might like to share with your children.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

This half term our core story is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle – a book that tells the story of a caterpillar’s journey to become a butterfly. It includes wonderful opportunities for counting and a lovely transformation at the end of the book.

After a little caterpillar  hatches out of his egg, he starts to

look for some food in the sunshine. On Monday he tries 1 apple but is

still hungry. On Tuesday he tries 2 pears. On Wednesday he eats 3 plums

and on Thursday he has 4 strawberries . On Friday he eats through 5 oranges

but every day he is still hungry! On Saturday he eats all sorts of food …..

but then he feels sick!!! On Sunday he finds a nice green

leaf to eat, feels much better and grows into a big caterpillar. Then he spins himself a

home called a cocoon  and after 2 weeks he grows into a beautiful butterfly!

The Hungry Caterpillar “Story Sacks” are now in the library for you to borrow & enjoy at home. If you would like to do so then please sign a sack out in the green “Library Loans Record” folder in the library. There are also copies in the classroom which you are welcome to borrow.

Thank you for sharing this story with us. J

We have been sharing the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar at Circle times across the Centre using our story sack bag which has lots of story related props
