Homerton Early Years Centre – Weekly Bulletin

16th June 2022

Message from the Head Teacher: During this hot spell of weather please can we request that all your children have sun cream put on at home before starting Nursery and that they come with a named sun hat. Thank you all.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a lot of fun today with our Claytime artists visiting for their storytelling session.  Please ask your children about the stories they made up during the session and the clay model props that went with them and do have a look at all the lovely pictures below. Thank you to all parents for supporting this event as it is your donations, made to School Fund, which pay for it.

Thank you also to Vlada’s Dad in South Room for coming to teach the children some polish songs and playing the guitar. I hear one of the songs was about puppies and proved very popular!

Next week we have our Nursery trip visits to Nightingale Park. Thank you to everyone who is coming to help with the trips.  Please make sure that children have comfortable shoes for walking and a sunhat/raincoat depending on the weather that day.  We will be providing children with a biscuit and drink, but if any parent helpers wish to bring a drink for themselves, please do.

Topic: Claytime storytelling session

Yesterday our clay artists, Sally and Steve, put on a great show for the children both during the morning and afternoon sessions.   The children helped them in making up a story called ‘The Spiders and the Skyscraper’.  The plot was roughly that the spiders, called Sparkles and Skywalker, both wanted to reach the top of the skyscraper, they also wanted to be different creatures, so with the help of a few thunderbolts they were changed into a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Unicorn! The Tyrannosaurus was scaring the Unicorn, but with the help of another thunderbolt, eventually changed back into a spider, leaving the Unicorn to live happily ever after!

The afternoon story was called ‘Princess Potato Mumma and the Nasty Fire Breathing Dragon’. In this story the Princess character was under threat from the dragon but eventually everything worked out well with a little help from the shark who lived in the palace moat!

Please see all the photos below to get a flavour of the event.  At the end of the storytelling session children were given their own piece of clay to try make their own model.

School name labels fundraiser

If you happen to be buying name labels for your child’s clothes, then a company called Stikins https://www.stikins.co.uk/will donate a percentage of the price paid to Homerton if you quote our fundraising number, which is 32197.

Final Reminder about times for picking up your children

If you are picking up your child at the end of the afternoon session you can either pick up before 3.20, from the park garden gate, or at 3.45 from your usual pick up points.  Please can we request that you don’t pick up children between 3.20-3.45 as they will be in the middle of Circle time, and it is difficult for staff to bring them out to you as it takes our staffing out of ratio.

Many thanks for your help with this.

If there is anything you would like to discuss with myself, or the class staff, please do get in touch.

Best wishes from us all

Alex Pearson
