Reminders and Requests:

Make sure your child has all their childhood vaccinations

The local NHS are urging parents and carers of children under five to ensure their children are fully vaccinated, especially those children who are starting primary school this September. Before starting primary school, it’s recommended that children have their measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and four-in-one pre-school booster vaccine, which protects against diphtheria, polio, tetanus, and whooping cough. Many of these diseases have self-isolating periods of at least a week, which means not only will the child miss school, but parents/carers will have to stay off work too until the self-isolation period ends.

Cali Makewell, Integrated Vaccination Service Lead at NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, said, “Vaccinations are not only important for your child’s health, but they can help protect those around them too, such as babies too young to be vaccinated and those who are too ill to be vaccinated.”

Parents and carers are urged to contact their GP practice directly to book vaccinations, or they can contact Herts Community Trust who can help arrange any missed vaccinations for them by calling 0300 555 5055 option 4. There are walk-in vaccinations clinics taking place across the county, and you can find details on these online at www.cpics.org.uk/the-vaccinators.

Plums and wasps

Please be aware that there is a plum tree in the park near our entrance which is attracting wasps.  We are doing our best to clear the plums from the ground to prevent anyone being stung.

Missing Pink Scooter

One of our children left a pink scooter outside the front entrance on Friday but when they were going home it was no longer there – has anyone mistakenly taken it thinking it belonged to their child?

Parenting in the Digital Age

Morley Memorial Primary School is hosting a free talk, which is open to anyone who would like to attend, entitled Parenting in the Digital Age delivered by Amy Ruffell who is Cambridgeshire’s Smartphone Free Childhood Regional Lead.  The talk is this Wednesday 16th July from 18.30-19.30 at Morley Memorial Primary School in Blinco Grove.

Message from Headteacher

Dear Parents

We are really looking forward to seeing you all at our Summer Celebration and Goodbye event, which is on Wednesday 16th, so this Wednesday coming. Please see diary section above for timings.

The Nursery children have now been given their Special Books and reports which I hope you have been enjoying.  Our Nest children will be given theirs this week. The Nursery children also received a lovely hand painted owl bookmark as a parting gift from Homerton. A big thank you goes to the very talented Hannah Keate, who works in the Nest, who made each book mark unique and individual.

I will also be sending out a final parent feedback question if you are able to help us by responding to this that would be fantastic.  Our aim is always to try and learn from the experience of families here and improve our offer to them so please do fill this in and return it if you can.

Our classes continue to have special experiences at Homerton.  I went on the two Nest trips to Nightingale Park last week.  The children had a great time and enjoyed all the activities which included a fun parachute play session at the end. I felt so proud of all the children walking to and from the park, which is quite a distance, without any complaints in the hot weather. They also followed all the instructions for activities so well. A big thank you goes to all the parents who have helped with these trips and made them possible. Please have a look at the pictures in the Learning section to see what fun everyone had.

Last week and this week we continue to have work experience students from our local secondary schools with us. Being here provides them with a valuable insight into the world of work and possibly helps them decide if they would like to pursue careers working with children. For us the experience of having younger adults is also great as children love having them here and it allows us to do some additional activities such as going on extra allotment, or park visits.

I also wanted to let you know that Celia Phipps who has worked for us for 7 years as both a Lunch Supervisor, and Teaching Assistant, is retiring at the end of term. We will really miss having her here but wish her a very happy retirement.

We are still looking for volunteers to help run our Messy Play community group on a Friday from 9.30am-10.45am. If you are able to help with this then please let me know.

Medical Update: We have had a case of ringworm, which is a fungal rash, in the Nest, but nothing else to report this week.
