Homerton Early Years Centre – Weekly Bulletin

Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents

Welcome back to the Summer Term, which is full of lots of fun events, for the children. One of these is our ‘Bear Hunt’ story trail for families around the garden on 13th May.  ‘We’re all Going on a Bear Hunt’, by Michael Rosen, is our core book for this half term so children will be getting to know the story really well and having the opportunity to enjoy acting it out together. The story is brilliant for developing children’s language.

Our school photographer, Helen Alderton, will also be visiting this term on the 12th, 13th and 14th May. She will be taking individual and class group photos which you will be able to buy directly from her website if you wish to.

On the 20th May we are hoping to have a fun physical activity event known as ‘The Really Wheelie Trail’ around the Nursery garden for both The Nest and Nursery children. We will need some parent volunteers for this event, which takes place in the morning from around 9.15am-10.30am, so if you are able to help please let me, or your class staff, know.

Our language of this half term is Greek so the children will be learning some greetings and numbers in Greek – please see the attached sheet for more information of ideas you can share at home.

During the Summer Term we are also hoping to do some allotment visits with the children, so if you would like to help with these please let the class staff know.

Medical Update: We have had a case of worms reported in West Room.

I thought it might be useful to have some general information on headlice. Whether your child is in The Nest, or Nursery, it is a good idea to check their hair on a regular weekly basis for headlice, as they can spread very easily in young children. The best way of preventing headlice is to buy a nit comb and comb through your child’s hair once you have applied conditioner. The fine teeth of the comb will then catch any lice or eggs that there may be.

Some of the Learning this week –

Here are some pictures of fun activities based around Easter which we did with the children just before the end of term.

Making Easter chocolate crispy cakes

Look how brilliantly they turned out!

Children followed the recipe and used a sand timer to see how long they needed to melt the chocolate

Some of the Nest children cooked wearing their Easter hats which were all so individual

Children were very proud to wear their hats

West Room children visited our Old Orchard garden and looked at the beautiful spring flowers and collected some feathers they had found

Children also made some beautiful spring blossom using twigs and tissue paper

As the sun was shining children were really enjoying developing their ball skills outside

They also made a ship with wings, which then turned into a plane so it was very versatile!

Our Nest children also built a rocket and counted down from 5 4 3 2 1 Blast off as they set off into space with Michelle captaining them

A big thank you goes to one of our Nest parents who kindly donated magnetic tiles for the children to enjoy – they are loving using them.

Reminders/Requests:

If anyone is able to help with the Really wheelie trail or allotment visits this term then please let me, or your class staff know.

PLEASE CAN I REMIND PARENTS NOT TO PARK ON YELLOW LINES, OR ACROSS OUR NEIGHBOURS DRIVEWAYS. We had a complaint from a neighbour yesterday who couldn’t leave their home when they wanted to as a car was parked on a yellow line across their driveway. It is really important for us to keep all children safe and maintain good relationships with our neighbours so your help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you            Greek Information
