Homerton Early Years Centre – Weekly Bulletin

13th November 2024

Message from the Head Teacher:

Dear Parents and Carers

If your child is in East, West or South Room then please do come along to our Parents evening and talk about how we learn at Homerton tomorrow evening 7.45-8.45pm – we look forward to seeing you.

Children in Need

If your child attends Homerton on Friday 15th November we are suggesting that they either wear something yellow, or with spots on, to support the Children in Need events that are happening across the country.

Please see BBC Children in Need for a variety of ways to make a donation online, or over the phone, if you wish to. You can also donate at your local bank or building society.

Raffle Wednesday 11th December. Thank you to everyone who has started making donations towards our Christmas raffle. A couple of parents have asked me about what they should donate.  We have raffle boxes, both for children and adults, so if you would like you can donate a child’s toy or book please, for the adult raffle boxes some suggestions might be something to eat or drink, bath products, books etc.

Tickets, costing £1.00, are sold on 11th December, and the raffle is drawn that afternoon.  Please donate raffle prizes by 29th November to allow time for Tracey, and her sister Sharon, to wrap them for us.

All proceeds from the raffle will go towards funding artificial grass in one of our Nest gardens, which currently gets very muddy.  The project is going to cost over £6000 so we will be fundraising for this throughout the year.

Library book borrowing and class loan

We have a fantastic library at Homerton so please do come and borrow a book for your child to read whenever you would like to.  There is a green folder on the library shelf for you to sign your books in and out.  Once returned please put them back on the shelves which are arranged in alphabetical order by the author’s surname.

Medical Update: Please continue to keep your children at home if they are unwell with temperatures, coughs and heavy colds, your support with this is much appreciated.

Some of the Learning this week

Our Language focus for this half term is Russian – please see the attached information sheet with a few key words and phrases we will be teaching the children, as well as some information on festivals and favourite foods eaten. Thank you to Tamsin for putting together the sheet for us.

This week’s photos mainly reflect the creative work children have been doing following last week’s firework display.

Children have been model making in the garden and creating their own rockets

They have also used paint and glitter to create beautifully sparkly pictures

Watching the glue falling off the glue stick can be really fun as it makes patterns as it falls for the glitter and sparkles to be stuck on to

Tubes can also be used very effectively to make pictures of fireworks bursting into the night sky. At our Friday Messy Play session last week children had a lot of fun doing this.

Another creative activity we find children really enjoy is playing with Gloop – a mixture of cornflour and water, mixed with food colouring, which provides the opportuity for children to explore different textures as the mixture solidifies and then magically becomes a liquid again when you start to touch it…an easy fun one to try out at home!

Please can you ensure that our office and class staff have up to date mobile phone contact details, and that we have a contact who is in Cambridge to ring, in the event that your child becomes ill, or has an accident, whilst at Homerton.

Please remember to provide your child with warm and weather appropriate clothing, including 1-2 spare sets of clothes in their bags as we go out in all weathers and it is now starting to get much colder.

With Best wishes from us all

Alex Pearson
