| Message from the Head Teacher:
Dear Parents
I hope you have all had a good weekend and not been too cold. The children were enjoying the frosty weather last week and noticed the pond was frozen over. As it is been so cold please can we ask you to continue to provide your children with warm, named layers of clothing, including a coat, hat, scarf and gloves.
This week we have all been exploring the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. Classes have been enjoying sharing the story together, and in the coming weeks will be acting it out with masks. Everyone will also be reading a recipe in order to make porridge in class. Below is our picture story vocabulary sheet for you to enjoy sharing with your child.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
A well-known fairy tale for the start of the year! Many of you and your children will already have come across this story a number of times and probably read many versions too. Your children are already familiar with
Goldilocks wandering through the three bears’ cottage and finding the bowl of porridge which suits her best, trying out the bears’ chairs and managing to break baby bear’s chair and then testing each bed until she finds one that is just right for a little sleep ….. until Daddy Bear, Mummy Bear and Baby Bear come home and she runs off into the forest .
If you have access to the internet there are many video versions of the tale, for example, http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/short-stories/goldilocks-and-the-three-bears which re-tells the story with a simple animation. Also www.bbcgoodfood.com has some lovely recipes for porridge if you feel like experimenting at home with your own porridge.
As I mentioned last week our language for the half term is Chinese. Please find attached an information and ideas sheet for you to use with your child at home. A big thank you to Tamsin and Dong for putting together all the information for us.
Just a reminder to put in your diaries our Communication, Language and Literacy parent workshop, on Thursday 12th February at 7.30pm-8.30pm. We hope to be able to give you some tips on what we do here to develop children’s language and literacy skills, and to let you know what you can also do at home to support your child in this area.
I have recently found out about free on-line parenting courses which you may find helpful. To access the courses you need to put in the search engine https://www.solihull.gov.uk and then put in your postcode. Cambridgeshire Council/NHS has paid in to Solihull as a provider for these courses. I have heard they are really good and include a number of different aspects of parenting which you may find helpful.
Please can we remind you that for health and safety reasons the car park entrance is only for staff use. Parents should only enter Homerton via the passageways, in order not to have children and cars moving around in the same space.
Please could we also ask that you help us in keeping all children safe by not parking on the yellow zig zags outside school, closing all gates, and not opening doors to any children who may be coming in, or out, of the Centre without their parent.

| Medical Update: We have quite a lot of children and staff with persistent coughs and colds and also Covid. | |||
| Some of the Learning this week
East Room children were taught how to make their own playdough using flour, bicarbonate of soda, oil and salt and enjoyed playing with it afterwards.
They have also been busy developing their fine motor skills by using construction kits to build tall towers and threading ribbons through a shopping basket, this threading activity helps children learn how to sew
Our Nest children have been focusing on their gross motor development by enjoying a movement session to a resource called ‘Sticky Kids’. They have also had fun doing an obstacle course.
The Goldilocks story has presented a lot of opportunities for role play as children have taken on the various parts and enjoyed acting out the story using our props and costumes
Bridget also read the children a different version of the story which they all enjoyed.
The South Room children also did some acting as part of their ‘Helicopter story’ session. This is where individual children tell the adult their own story, the adult writes the story down, and then the child whose story it is directs the other children in acting out their story during the circle time that day. The stories told are always so different as they come from each individual child’s experience and imagination
