Message from the Head Teacher:
Dear Parents and Carers
Your child may have talked about being ‘Homerton Owl’ for the day, so I thought you might like to know a little bit more about this important role in our Nursery classes. The child who is the ‘Homerton Owl’ for the day will find a special owl badge to wear in their name pocket in the morning. They then spend the session doing important jobs for instance taking the lunch register to Angela, our cook, or leading the class down to lunch or out into the garden etc. Here are some photos of children who were ‘Homerton Owl’ doing some of their special jobs.
During our morning ‘Circle time’ our ‘Homerton owls’ also have the opportunity to tell the class about their ‘All About Me Book’. They show photos of their family, and often tell us about their favourite story, or song, which is then read, or sung, with the whole class. Circle time is a very social time as children enjoy telling each other about the people, and events, that are most important to them. If you have not yet returned your child’s ‘All about Me Book’, please could you do so.
Now that Autumn is upon us, the class staff have requested that you please bring in conkers, seeds, or other seasonal objects for the children to enjoy in class. The weather has also changed suddenly so please can your children be have a warm, waterproof, coat and spare clothes to change into as children go out in the garden in all weathers, even when it is raining.
Wednesday 18th October ‘Wear it Pink or Red day’ and Fundraising Cake Sale We are supporting the ‘Wear it Pink’, breast cancer charity event next Wednesday 18th October – so if you would like to please can your children wear some item of pink, or red, clothing and bake or buy cakes. We will be supporting the charity by collecting voluntary cash only donations for the cakes – so do bake and bring along cakes when you drop off your child, or buy something from the stall. Your support with this event is much appreciated.

Medical/Covid Update: We have started to have a number of staff and children off with flu/covid type symptoms so in order to prevent the spread, please keep your children at home if they are unwell. |
Topic
Music sessions have started in the last couple of weeks We employ a specialist music teacher, Davina Shore, who works with the children on a weekly basis. Her music sessions are really fun and pitched at this age group. This week the children were playing wooden claves whilst singing familiar nursery rhymes.
Conker rolling We have also been learning about Autumn and making some beautiful pictures by rolling conkers in paint in different sized trays.
Celebrating birthdays Some classes have also had birthdays to celebrate at circle time. The child whose birthday it is wears a special hat and has a special pretend birthday cake with the appropriate number of candles on it. This is a great opportunity for children to do some group counting and particularly learning about the numbers 2, 3 and 4!
Allotment Children have also started to visit the allotment. A big thank you goes to Stella and Kate for all their hard work in growing the pumpkins that you may see around the Centre. If any parents would like to help with our allotment upkeep then please let me know as we would love to have a voluntary gardening group to help out.
Emergency worker roleplay The last photo this week is of our children in the Nest enjoying dressing up and making a good job of keeping us all safe!
