| Message from the Head Teacher:
Dear Parents
We have had an exciting week with the arrival of 10 eggs with an incubator in the Homerton Library area. Some of the eggs have already started to hatch and children have been lucky enough to see this amazing event, as the chicks peck their way out of their shells and gradually emerge. When they first hatch out they are initially very tired and wet, but within a few hours their feathers fluff up and they are walking around. We move them out of the incubator into a larger container 24 hours after they have hatched, as they initially need to be warm. It is lovely to hear the wonder in children’s and adult’s voices just outside my office as they watch this amazing lifecycle.
If you get the chance to come and see the chicks with your child at the beginning or end of their day please do – they are in the Library area.
Parent consultations for Nursery parents continue this week and next so please sign up for a slot for a 10 minute consultation with your child’s class staff if you haven’t already done so.
Our visits to Rock Road Library have started with trips for West Room taking place this week, a big thank you to parent helpers for supporting these trips. Please see the Learning Section at the end of the bulletin for photos of this event.
Mitali Peckham, our East Room teacher, will be doing a Parent Workshop focusing on Maths at 7.30pm on Monday 23rd March, so please do book a babysitter and come along.
Just a reminder that on Wednesday 25th March we are holding our ‘Eggstravaganza’ celebration which focuses on Spring and New Life – this is an event for all parents and children to enjoy together in our garden at drop off time – 8.45am-9.30am.
We are having our Easter fund raising raffle on the 18th March – We are still rather short of prizes so if you feel able to please donate a raffle prize for this event by Friday this week. Some ideas for this might be – Colouring books, Crayons, New Toys, Books, Eggs, Smellies. Tickets will be £1.00 and funds raised will go towards continuing to update our Nest and Nursery garden equipment.
Easter Holiday Club is running Monday 30th March – Thursday 2nd April inclusive. The club is always lots of fun and Mel, who runs it, always plans some varied activities. Please remember to book your child into the sessions you require which can either be for full, or half days.
Please find attached some useful information about the importance of brushing your child’s teeth and teaching them how to do this. |
| Medical Update: Nothing in particular to report this week. |
| Some of the Learning this week
Classes have been enjoying counting the eggs in the library area, we are hoping some of them will hatch out in the next couple of days. South Room have been learning about floating and sinking during Circle time. Firstly they guessed if particular objects would float or sink in water and then they tested out their guesses by placing the objects in the tray of water.
West Room was our first class to visit Rock Road Library. They enjoyed hearing all about the function of the Library, heard a story, explored the beautiful garden, and stamped their own book to take home as a gift from the Library staff. A big thank you to the Library staff and volunteers for helping facilitate these trips.
The Garden has lots of spring flowers, tunnels to explore and a ‘bug hotel’.
Children have been developing their fine motor skills by learning to sew. This is a really valuable skill which we like all children to have experienced during their time at Homerton. Thank you to Stella and Ilona for volunteering and helping to teach them how to thread a needle and do stitching.
The Nest have had a cookery class learning how to make pizza. Thank you to Nelli, one of our parent governors for teaching the children how to cook and make pizza using different toppings….they also really enjoyed eating it!

We are holding an Open Morning for future parents on Saturday 21st March 9.45-11.15am so do let any friends who might be interested know about this.
Our neighbours have let us know that some parents have been parking across their driveways at drop off and pick up times, which can be very frustrating for the neighbours when they are wanting to go out. Please can all car drivers be considerate to our Homerton neighbours – thank you. Wishing all our mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday Best wishes from Alex and all at Homerton The Children’s Toothbrushing Guide |
