Homerton Early Years Centre – Bulletin

3rd February 2022

Message from the Head Teacher: Happy Chinese or Lunar New Year to all our families. This year is the year of the Tiger.

The Centre has been very busy celebrating Lunar New Year with the children this week in all the classes. Dong and Hyun-Mi always provide us with lots of inspiration for activities at this time of year, so a big thank you to them.  Please read a little more about our activities this week under the Topic section.

Covid 19 Update: A big thank you to South Room parents who have supported this week when we had to close the class on Monday and Tuesday.  Liz and Laura, who both have Covid, have been quite poorly with it but we hope to see them back towards the end of next week. Thank you to other staff for stepping in and working additional hours to cover the class. Earlier in the week we had 3 cases of Covid amongst the children in South Room. East, West and The Nest seem to have far fewer cases now.

Please let us know by 10am if your child is not coming in to Homerton on a particular day for any reason. Please also let us know if your child or family have tested positive for Covid 19.

Topic

The photos above show a few of the lovely things that have been going on in classes to celebrate Chinese/Lunar New Year.  Dong treated West Room to a musical session playing her wooden Chinese stringed instrument known as a Guqin. She has been learning how to play it for about a year now.  If you would like to learn more about this instrument do have a look at our Website Twitter page, from 12th February 2021, where she both plays the Guquin and explains how to make a Chinese lantern.

The classes have been enjoying wearing our Lions head costume to do a Chinese dance, whilst their friends provide the musical accompaniment. There has been more dancing using fans in the Nest, and noodles have been cooked and enjoyed throughout the Centre.

Children have been learning to write Chinese characters as well as enjoying dressing up in Chinese traditional dress. We hope your children all enjoy the gold chocolate coins, which are coming home in red envelopes, as a small gift from Homerton.
