Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you to all the parents, and staff, across the Centre who have made Chinese New Year come alive for the children this week in so many different ways. We have had wonderful Chinese fan dancing, and napkin spinning, which looked beautiful and was a lot of fun for the children – do have a look at the photos on the screen as you come into Homerton. Classes have also been learning how to write Chinese characters, and numbers, and we have had lots of making and eating, of noodles and spring rolls…as well as a few sweeter treats! Classes are really looking so colourful and bright and many have dragons, created by the children hanging from the ceiling. Dear Parents and Carers, We have had a very exciting week here at Homerton with our guest storyteller, Marion Leeper, telling ‘Stories in the Dark’, in her beautiful tent which just fitted into the Library! The snow has also been enjoyed by all, and lots of children have been sliding down the hills at Homerton on tin trays.  One class also managed visits to the allotment which was looking really magical.   Next week we have Sissi’s Mum, from East Room, kindly doing a Chinese dance show for us all in the Rainbow Room – your children may well talk about this event to celebrate Chinese New Year. There are also plans to cook lots of noodles in classes, and share Chinese stories.   A big thank you to Felicity and Helen for delivering their writing workshop, last week, which was a really interesting and informative session – if you have any questions about your child and writing please speak to class staff, or go and see Felicity in East Room.   Family Worker Drop – In sessions are being run on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month 10.30-12.00 at:- The Peacock Centre, Brookfields Hospital, 351 Mill Rd, CB1 3UG. Homerton Weekly Bulletin – January 21 2019

Homerton Weekly Bulletin January 21st 2019 Dear Parents and Carers, Goldilocks and the Three Bears is this half term’s core book and the children are busy acting out the story as well as enjoying making and eating lots of porridge with different toppings. The children will also be getting to know a variety of other ‘Once Upon a Time’, stories this half term. The structure of these simple tales helps children learn about how to write their own stories which staff are scribing for them. If you would like to find out about how children start to write themselves then please do come along to this week’s Writing Workshops on Wednesday– see below for more information. A couple requests from us are:- If your child is not feeling well in the morning please try to find a way to keep them at home in order to reduce the spread of illnesses within classes. Please phone the office by 10am if your child is coming in later in the morning and needs a lunch. Thank you to all those parents who park further away and walk rather than parking on our yellow lines. The lines are there to keep all the children safe when crossing the road. Please remember to sign up for parent consultations which are coming up shortly and are a great opportunity to hear about your child’s progress and achievements here at Homerton as well as to discuss any concerns you may have about your child. Diary date reminders Wednesday 23rd January Parent workshop on ‘Children and Writing Development’ at 1.30-2.45pm and again at 7.15-8.30pm.  Do come... read more
