Weekly Bulletin – 21 March 2019

Homerton Weekly Bulletin 21st March 2019 Dear Parents and Carers, The children have continued enjoying watching our chicks grow this week.  They have visited each class and children have had the chance both to draw, and hold, them. They will be returning to the farm, at the end of the week, unless any family particularly wants to have them…please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in having chickens? Children who were here on Monday were treated to an Irish dancing display by children from St Alban’s and St Bede’s Schools.  Thank you to Bernie and Helena Cafferkey for organising this for us. If anyone is interested in Irish dancing classes, for their children, then please chat to Bernie  in West Room, who runs a group after school on a Thursday at St. Albans School next to the Catholic Church. We have shared parent comments from the survey with our Curriculum Committee. Some of the main comments were about food, which I have passed on to our catering company, and also about using a day to day on-line reporting systems for parents such as ‘Tapestry’.  The Curriculum Committee, and staff, feel that systems, such as Tapestry, maybe very reassuring for parents but can take up a lot of time during the session which might be better spent playing with, and teaching, the children. If you do want to know more about your child’s days at Homerton then please do talk to class staff.  We will also try to use the plasma screen in the entrance hall more frequently so you can see photos of daily...

Weekly Bulletin – 8 March 2019

Homerton Weekly Bulletin 8 March 2019 Dear Parents and Carers, A very big thank you to all of you who baked, and bought cakes, and to Tracey’s sister Sharon for running the stall. The cake stall raised a fantastic £190.90 which we have already planned to spend on improving our outside book area. We are going to buy a couple of extra-large bean bag type seats for the children to enjoy sharing stories on. We are also buying some of the Julia Donaldson stories which the children love – to add to our range of Core Stories. I hope you have heard the good news that Maintained Nursery Schools, such as Homerton, have now had their funding extended to July 2020. This is a direct result of all the support you gave to us by signing the Save Nursery School petition recently. There will be a further announcement about our funding beyond July 2020 after the Autumn Spending Review….and Brexit! Again a big thank you for all your support with this. This week the children have all been enjoying pancakes and sharing the Mr Wolf story that we mentioned in the Newsletter. Rinchen, one of our parent governors, has been working on the more exciting format for the Newsletter for us – so thank you to her and I hope you all enjoyed reading it.
